Think of a platform that provides you with the user-sharing power of YouTube, along with the community gameplay of Minecraft! Well, this is exactly what Roblox offers you: an endless library of games composed and compiled together by different users all around the world. As a parent, you should be familiar with the fact that even your kid might have experienced Roblox, whether at home or somewhere else. Roblox allows people to play different games either alone or with their friends.
Now, it is also very common for people to wonder what kind of games are present on Roblox, and is Roblox safe for kids or not. Get ready, as this guide will tell you all about Roblox and whether the platform can be considered safe for kids or not.
Overview of Roblox
The first thing that you need to know about Roblox is that it has been assigned a T rating by ESRB. The ‘T’ rating stands for teen, along with a content descriptor mentioning diverse content. Additionally, you will also see a discretion-advised option in the rating. The description ‘Diverse Content: Discretion Advised’ means that the platform offers people access to a variety of content, but certain content on the platform might not be suitable for people of all ages. In simple terms, Roblox may offer endless games that can be played by people; some of them can be considered inappropriate for kids.
How can you determine which Roblox experience is good for your kid?
Roblox games come with labels for the purpose of safety and to help parents understand the type of content their kids might face. The rating system of ESRB, with its three parts, is just one applicable way of doing it; Roblox has its own two-part system of two segments:
Content Maturity Labels - Mark the maturity level that is appropriate for the experience. The label categories are Minimal, Mild, Moderate, and Restricted.
Minimal - The content may be considered as very mild only; it may contain absurdly unrealistic blood and even occasional mild fear.
Mild - The content might include repeated instances of very mild violence, lots of unrealistic blood, mild crude humor, and even repeated mild fear.
Moderate - The content could be characterized by moderate violence, light realistic blood, moderate crude humor, gambling content that is not playable, and/or moderate fear all at the same time.
Restricted - The content has strong violence, heavy and realistic, moderate crude humor, romance themes, gambling content that is not playable, presence of alcohol, strong language, and/or moderate fear. Such experiences are accessible only to 17+ users who confirmed their ages through the ID verification process.
Content Labels - Show the type of content that is in an experience, usually by creators, like realistic depictions of blood or item trading for payment.
You should also keep in mind that kids below the age of 9 are automatically barred from accessing content that is ‘Moderate’. They are only free to access content that is ‘Minimal’ or ‘Mild’.
All these content markers tell you which games on the platform can be played by kids of which age groups, and what should not be accessed entirely.
